Is proud to be what locals call a BOI (born on the island) Galveston Texas and raised on Bolivar Peninsula where she has always had a love for her community and beaches.
Rhea first took notice of photography as a very young girl because of her priest Joseph O’Malley. “He seemed to always have a camera in hand and took some of the most cherished black and white images of so many local families and friends.” I can remember spending hours looking at my Mom’s and sister’s photo albums. When I was about twelve my oldest sister gave me a camera for a Christmas gift and the passion of taking photos of others started there then grew when I joined the yearbook staff in high school. I was so fascinated with taking images and then being able to watch them come to life just moments later in the darkroom. Although the process has changed a great deal I still get excited to see the outcome after a portrait session or event. Capturing the expressions and memories of others never grows old.
I take great pride in my talent and consider it a blessing. There is no greater honor for me to be chosen to capture others important moments in life. I’ve always been a people person and never meet a stranger so portrait and event photography was the perfect fit for me. I believe my personality and passion for what I’m doing is what sets me apart and puts my clients at ease.
Over the years on occasion I’ve had a few clients’ voice concern or apprehension about having their portrait or event photographed but once we meet and begin to converse they immediately relax and forget all about being in front of the camera. One of my favorite things is photographing a clients wedding and then having the honor of later photographing their children.
I have been voted best photographer of Galveston County which I consider a big honor because this was a people choice award. I’ve earned merits from Texas Professional Photography association while continuing and expanding my education at Texas School. I have been a featured photographer in Coastal and Island Magazines. I’ve had images featured in The Houston Chronicle, Culture Map, Galveston Monthly, Galveston Daily News, Coast magazine and The Islander.
Rhea’s Photographic Art has donated products and service to many charities and organizations. I have been chosen as the exclusive photographer for the Galveston Humane Society fund raiser Paws Gala which is one of the Islands most prestigious events and features the elite of Galveston with their pets for over ten years.
I have also been chosen as Knights of Momus exclusive photographer honoring 20 -24 Duchesses/Debutantes from elite Galveston & Houston families making their coming out debut for five years at The Historical Grand Theatre in downtown Galveston.
